HTML Editor: Anchors
Anchors allow the use of jump labels in a text to let the user jump to a certain part of a text.
With anchors, it is possible to build e.g. a table of content, linked to the respective parts of the text.
The following steps are necessary to create an anchor:
- Selection of the text to be the target.
- Clicking on the button "Anchor" in the toolbar of the HTML editor:
- The following window will open:
Entering a unique name for the anchor and confirming by clicking "OK".
Tipp:
What kind of name should I choose?
An anchor allows alphanumerical names containing the following characters:
Characters (a-z), numbers (0-9), Underscore (_) and Hyphen (-);
The name should start with a character and we recommend to use only lowercase letters.
The name must not contain: Special characters, spaces, umlauts, periods, colons.
- The anchor will be displayed in the HTML editor as follows (not visible in the saved text):
- To link the anchor from the same text, create an external link and enter the anchor name as the URL (with a preceding hash key):
#anchorname
An anchor can also be targeted with a link from another text.
To achieve this create an internal link and enter the anchor name in the respective field.
Tipp:
My anchor does not work. What can be the cause?
Most problems with anchors result in the writing of the anchor names. The browser distinguishes between upper- and lowercase characters, i.e. "anchor_name" is not the same as "Anchor_Name" or "anchor_Name". This is why we recommend using lowercase characters as a rule.
