How are Placeholders Created and Maintained?
To create a placeholder the user needs the permission “May add placeholders”. Then, the user can see the admin tab and its “Add” menu. Via the “Add” menu the user can create a new placeholder instance. In the edit mask of a placeholder, the user can enter the title (or label, respectively) of a placeholder, as well as its value.
If a user also has the permission “May edit placeholders”, he may see and use the source “Placeholder” in the admin tab and he may open placeholders in edit mode. In the edit mask he can modify the title or value of a placeholder. However, the ID is not modifiable.
If the user also has the permission “May delete placeholders”, the “Delete” icon is displayed to him in the toolbar of the detail view.
What Happens, if a Placeholder is Deleted?
If a placeholder is deleted that was still used in a text, instead of the placeholder value the ID string is now visible in the [[<placeholder ID>]] notation. Currently, there is no way to see, in which texts a placeholder is used.
