Deleting User Groups
Before deleting a user group - make sure that no content is assigned to the group.
When you delete a user group, SABIO checks this aspect and offers automatic transfer of affected content to another user group.
To manually transfer content to another user group, it is recommended to inherit writing permissions via the tree.
Inheritance of writing permissions across the tree
- In the Tree-tab open the context menu by right-clicking on any tree-node and select "Edit Tree".
- If the user group is assigned to a view, right-click on the specific view and select "Edit View".
- In the section "permissions" add the desired user group and select "apply to all sub-content" via the drop down menu.
Note: With this method all sub-nodes, texts and documents below the edited node will be assigned the new user group.
We recommend to check beforehand if any content exists on lower levels assigned to a different user group.
If necessary this content can be assigned individually after overwriting the original assignments.
Steps to delete a user group:
- Log into SABIO with a user that has the permission "can delete user groups"
- In the Administration-Tab select the source "User Groups"
- Search the list of content for the user group you want to delete
- Select the user group you want to delete
- Select the delete function in the toolbar within the "detailed view"
- When prompted: "Do you really want to delete this entry?" - select "yes"
Interim result:
- If the User group was not assigned to any tree node, text, template or document, it will be irrevocably deleted.
- If the user group is the owner of at least one branch, text, template, or document, you cannot delete it and the system will help you to transfer the content to another user group.
- The following dialog appears for transferring content:
- Here you first select the new user group to which the contents of the user group to be deleted are to be transferred.
If the new user group does not have views or users that are necessary for the assignment of the affected contents, they are added to the user group.
The administrator will be notified of this:
- The following confirmation window will appear to transfer the contents to the new user group:
-
Now the administrator can initiate the deletion of the user group again.
In this second step, the system checks whether this user group contains users who are only members of this specific user group.
If the user group were deleted, these users would no longer belong to a user group. If this is the case, the system prompts the administrator to assign these users to another user group.
The following dialog appears for transferring users:
-
If these users have access to views that are not assigned to the selected user group, these views are assigned to the new user group.
All members of this user group have access to these newly assigned views, then.If this is not the case, the administrator can confirm the assignment of the new user group directly.
-
As soon as all contents and users of the user group to be deleted have been transferred to another user group, the administrator can delete the desired user group from the system using the "Delete" button in the toolbar.
This automatic check and the transfer of content and users ensures that no content or users without a user group are created, when the user group is deleted.
