Adding Videos
Attaching videos is another supporting option to create and distribute knowledge.
Explaining complex content may be a lot easier via video compared to Text.
Prerequisites:
Since SABIO 5.13 "video.js" is used and the built-in HTML-Video-Player.
Format:
Use .mp4 as the video format to make sure your videos are played as desired.
Using other video formats may lead to sub-optimal replay of videos within SABIO depending on Browser and codecs used.
Uploading a video:
Click on the video button in the CK-Editor Toolbar
Chose your video options (width/height) within the opening dialog.
A click on "add document" will open another dialog
Title:
Add the title of the video
Filename:
To locate a file to upload, you may click on "search". If no title is given at this time, the filename will automatically be set as the title of the video. You may alter this title before saving if desired.
Description:
Use the description field to add a description of the video. This is internal and will only be displayed within the search results.
Rights:
You can set the write/edit rights to the file in this area.
By default these are set to the same rigts as the rest of the text.
Validity:
If you want to you may set a validity date in this field, after which the video can not be consumed by users any more.
Save/Cancel:
If your input is correct you may safe the changes with "save" or abort with "cancel"
The video is now saved/uploaded to SABIO.
Preview:
The video can only be previewed once the text has been saved as well and been reloaded via MORE->REFRESH
If any changes are desired to the way the video is displayed, you may click on the video to highlight it, then use the CK-Editor Video Button to alter the video settings.
Do not get confused by the warning pop-up, the video will be displayed after refreshing the Text.
You can alter the video settings at any given time.
Locating videos:
All videos can be found via the search Tab -> SOURCES -> DOCUMENTS
If you need the video to be found via a Text search result, you can do the following:
- Open the Text to edit
- Highlight a desired word
- Click on the CK-Editor link-button
- Switch to the tab "documents"
- This will display a list of all attached documents
- Chose the video
- Save the link
- Save the Text
What to do if my video is in a format different than .mp4 ?
If your videos are in the format .mov you may want to convert them using a freeware tool (These can easily be found via a web-search. SABIO can not legally recommend tools)
What happens if I have older Texts that contain videos (not in .mp4 format)?
Not all video formats are supported by all browsers.
Depending on the used browser it is possible that the video playback fails or is not optimally formatted when displayed within SABIO.
You can find an overview of supported file formats by browser can be found via the Firefox Developer Portal.
